Nadelberg 4 (main)

Location: Inner courtyard of Nadelberg 4 (go through a large wooden door) / "Engelhof"
Artist: no information
in operation since: after the 18th century
listed building: no
History / description: On the fountain pillar stands a figure holding a water jug in her arms. The fountain has a rectangular trough and leans against the building. Already in 1357 the "Engelhof" appears in the files. Over the centuries, the property underwent many changes of ownership and therefore it is not surprising that only in one room wood carvings from earlier times are available. Today, parts of the University of Basel are housed here.
Special: The fountain can only be visited during working days during the day.

History / Description: The well trough is rectangular. On the pillar it has a triangular gable on which an acorn stands. The gargoyle juts out from the middle of the well column. The fountain is located in the courtyard of "Schöne Hus". This house is probably the oldest surviving residential building in Basel. Based on structural findings, it is believed that the house was built in the second quarter of the 13th century.
Special: The fountain can only be visited during working days during the day.
